Turbidity Advisory Workgroup

DEQ is convening an external workgroup to advise DEQ on policy and economic implications of rule options for revising the water quality standard for turbidity. The purpose of the water quality standard is to protect beneficial uses, such as aquatic life from adverse effects due to turbidity, which measures the “cloudiness” of the water.

Mission

DEQ is seeking constructive input from members of the advisory workgroup to inform development of the revised water quality standard for turbidity. The external workgroup will evaluate policy options with respect to social and economic impacts, and other policy issues.

Workgroup Meetings

Workgroup Members

The workgroup is composed of thirteen members representing a variety of affected parties. In addition, the workgroup is being moderated by a non-member chair to ensure that all members have adequate opportunity to provide input. In addition, five agency advisors will provide input to assist in workgroup deliberations.

DEQ staff from the Water Quality Standards and Assessment section will support efforts of the Workgroup. Other DEQ Water Quality staff may provide additional technical support on targeted issues.
