Oregonians have been involved in environmental protection efforts since a 1938 initiative petition forced the cleanup of the Willamette River. Public concern for the environment has made Oregon a leader in environmental protection efforts. Individuals from all walks of life and state and local officials must continue working together if we are to maintain and continue our progress. DEQ is committed to including Oregonians in all aspects of the agency’s decision-making. When developing agency rules, programs and policies, DEQ frequently convenes advisory committees and work groups composed of experts, affected businesses and individuals, environmental groups and concerned citizens. These groups provide vital information and expertise for helping DEQ make good decisions, and are an important link to help DEQ communicate with interested people or with specific interest groups. Some advisory committees and work groups are limited in duration and number of meetings, while others are standing committees that can last years. Check the list below for opportunities to apply to volunteer as a committee member. The following advisory committees are providing input into DEQ’s rules, programs or policies.
