Maintenance Areas in Oregon 

Maintenance areas are geographic areas that had a history of nonattainment, but are now consistently meeting the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS). Maintenance areas have been re-designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from "nonattainment" to "attainment with a maintenance plan," or designated by the Environmental Quality Commission. Legal descriptions of these areas are listed in Oregon Administrative Rules, Chapter 340, Division 204-0010.

Eugene-Springfield Air Quality Maintenance Area for Carbon Monoxide

The Eugene-Springfield area is being considered for a change to a PM10 Maintenance Area, and being re-designated as in "attainment" with the PM10 air quality health standard. A public hearing on this proposed change was held by the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) on September 26, 2011, and a decision is expected at the December15-16, 2011 meeting of the Environmental Quality Commission. If approved, DEQ and LRAPA will submit a re-designation request to the Environmental Protection Agency.
